Prevent Child Sexual Abuse: Learn What You Can Do

We are all responsible for keeping children safe. Learn what you can do on April 12, 2012 at a special presentation at the Wallingford Public Library.

April is Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Learn What You Can Do

Have you talked to your child about sexual abuse? I'm guessing most parents would answer that question with a yes. Ive told them about staying away from strangers and taught them that no one has the right to touch their private parts."

I've covered it, right? Wrong!

Ninety percent of sexually abused children are abused by someone they know and trust. That means a relative, friend of the family, or neighbor; not a stranger. Also, pedophiles groom their victims with seemingly innocent, nurturing forms of touch long before they abuse them.

So how do we prepare our children for the unthinkable? What can we say and do to prevent child sexual abuse?

Stop It Now! Together We Can Prevent Child Sexual Abuse. Education is the key.

Join me on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Wallingford Public Library at 6:30 for the answers that may save your child from becoming one of the 1 in 4 girls or 1 in 6 boys who are sexually abused by their eighteenth birthday.

At the end of the ninety minute presentation you will learn:

  • Why we need to be educated
  • What is considered child sexual abuse
  • Behaviors to watch for in adults
  • Symptoms of sexual abuse in children
  • How to develop a family plan
  • How to report suspected abuse

Everyone is responsible for creating a safe environment for children. Become educated. Know the facts and learn how you can make a difference in the life of a child. This presentation is open to parents, grandparents, child care providers, teachers and anyone who cares about children.

I look forward to seing you there,

Roberta Dolan
