African-American Genealogy

The Friends of Godfrey Memorial Library will be offering a free,introductory program on African-American Genealogy on Saturday October 6,2012 @ 1:00pm. Our guest speaker will be Norma Wright. A resident of Middletown,she is a pharmacist,librarian and volunteers at the Godfrey Library.

     Norma's genealogical research started as a quest to "prove" that her ancestor was an escaped slave. Her research states include Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The surnames she has researched include Wright, Yanc(e)y, Watts, Willis, Green(e), Glover, Churchwell, Holmes, And Hughs.

Directions:From the West, Take I-691 East onto Route 66 East (Wasington St.) Go under the railroad bridge at next light turn left onto Route 3 North (Newfield St.). Library is a quarter mile down on right.
