Meriden Mom Says She Was Fired For Backing Malloy Education Plan

The New Haven teacher says she thinks her firing is a retaliatory move by educators.

 

Gwen Samuel, a Meriden mom and Head Start teacher in New Haven who helped organize a rally in Hartford in support of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's proposed education reforms, has been fired from her public school job, according to the website CT News Junkie.

Samuel told the website that she got notice from the New Haven school district one day after staging a rally at the Capitol last month. She said she thinks her firing is in retaliation for her outspoken support of , which has drawn the ire of teachers and school administrators across the state, but which is widely embraced by parents.
