Rob Montemurro to Fill Platt Principal Post

Montemurro will leave Washington Middle School to take over for Donna Mik.

At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Mark Benigni announced that Washington Middle School Principal Robert Montemurro has been selected as the next principal of Platt High School. He will take over for Donna Mik, who is leaving the post at the end of this year. Mik will take on the role of director of pupil personnel programs now held by the retiring Palma Vaccaro.

Montemurro, a lifelong Meriden resident, attended Platt himself and later coached football and served as vice principal there.

“I’m thoroughly thrilled at the opportunity to go to Platt High School,” he told the board. “It’s been a dream of mine.”

Montemurro spoke fondly of his years at the helm of Washington Middle School—a place “I love with a passion,” he said. Working with middle school students “is a challenge,” he shared, “but it really has taught me a lot as a person.”
