School Board Goes Paperless

The Board of Education will save more than $10,000 a year by sharing information electronically.

In a move that will save both money and trees, the school board voted Tuesday to it provides at its meetings. Instead, information will be shared via computer.

The measure will save the school system nearly $4,700 the first year and more than $10,400 a year after that, according to school officials.

To facilitate the sharing of information digitally, the district will purchase iPads for board members, at a total cost of about $4,770.

The board will also implement a digital file sharing system called BoardDocs that provides training and technical support for about $2,700 a year—far less than the estimated $13,162.50 now spent on hard copies every year.

The administration will send information to board members electronically before every meeting. Members of the public will be able to download the information from the Board of Education website.
