Big Y Supermarkets may be a newcomer to the Silver City, but it has already earned the Board of Education's Community Support Award.
"Big Y has not been part of Meriden for very long," said Mark Hughes, school board president, in presenting the award at Tuesday night's meeting, but the company began demonstrating its support of local education right away. Upon joining the community, the company donated $500 to each school in Meriden, including parochial schools and the Venture program, Hughes said.
