State Releases Meriden's Connecticut Mastery Test Results

Following its Tuesday release of test results for Connecticut's 10th graders, the State Board of Education released another set of results from state-wide standardized tests Wednesday, this time from the Connecticut Mastery Tests (CMTs).

The CMTs test elementary students in grade 3 through 8 in the areas of math, reading and writing. Students in grades 5 and 8 also take an additional science portion of the test.

The state reported "incremental improvement" on the tests throughout Connecticut.

Meriden's 2011 results on the tests are below. The state has five levels for each subject: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, Goal and Advanced. "Proficient" levels are those whose scores meet "Adequate Yearly Progress" under federal No Child Left Behind rules. The "Goal" level is the state's target for student achevement and is higher than that of "Proficient." 

Meriden 2011 student scores were generally on par with those of recent years - with slight gains and losses as compared with 2010 results, depending on grade and subject.

Looking at results from the five-year period in which the current version of the test has been given, Meriden students have shown a marked improvement in math skills in all grades.
