Meriden Patch enthusiastically welcomes back our Student Writer column, which each week features a piece of fiction, non-fiction or poetry by Meriden students of all grades, as chosen by their teachers.
We are excited to announce that this year Meriden’s three parochial schools, Saint Joseph, Saint Stanislaus and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, will also be participating along with the City's twelve public schools.
This year we will begin with a timely poem by one of Saint Stanislaus' finest.

What have you learned in school that makes you a better writer? Forms of speech help me to be a better writer. It helps me to put my thoughts down on paper.
What is your favorite book? My favorite book is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I like these books because they are funny, well written, and I like the setting of the books.
What do you like to do outside of school? While I am outside of school, I like to play sports. I like to BMX, play baseball, play basketball, and play football. I BMX for fun, and I also play football for fun. I play basketball and baseball in leagues. I have been playing basketball for seven years, the last two years for my school. I played baseball for Dairy Queen this past year, and have been playing for eight years.
