Football Week in Meriden

A shortlist of events and activities

The end of the fall sports season is nigh, which makes those dwindling high school football games all the more precious. Soak in every last minute by hitting all the pigskin-centered events in town this week:

Wilcox Technical High School's varsity team will play Willimantic's Windham Technical High School at Falcon Field on Thanksgiving Eve. The Nov. 24 game will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The 2010 Stoddard Bowl pits Maloney against Platt, both of whom are coming off exceptional seasons. (Though most residents would show up even if they were lousy.) It's on Thanksgiving at 10:30 am at Falcon Field.

For a little pre-game action on Thursday head to Ryder's on Main for kegs and eggs in the morning. They open at 7 a.m., which almost gives you time to also have a pre-game nap.

From 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Quality Time will be serving egg and cheese sandwiches and Bloody Marys for the Stoddard Bowl crowd.

And remember to give back: Washington Middle School is sponsoring a canned food drive during the Bowl Game. At half time volunteers from the school will collect non-perishables at Falcon Field entrances, to go to local food pantries.
