Meriden's Jenkins Goes in Third Round to Saints

The Maloney High School graduate was the 82nd overall pick in this year's NFL Draft.

Meriden's "Big John" Jenkin's dream came true on Friday night when the 2009 Maloney High School graduate was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

The 82nd overall pick could prove to be the anchor in Saints' defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s 3-4 defense.

Before making it to the NFL, Jenkins played at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for two seasons before playing two years at Georgia. He reportedly finished his last semester on the honor roll with a 3.0 GPA.

Jenkins is listed as 6' 4" 346 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.20 seconds.

He played fullback on the Maloney team that lost to New Canaan in the 2006 Class L championship game.
