Wilcox Girls' Basketball Team 2-2 After Win Over Classical Magnet

Coach credits passing and better play at the post

Wilcox Tech improved its record to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play with a win over Classical Magnet 48-37 at home on Tuesday night.

After reaching the CSC conference playoffs last year the Indians got off to a rocky 0-2 start this season. With a two-game win streak under their belts, head coach Scott Medeiros is pleased with where his team is headed.

"A lot of these kids play other sports so it takes awhile for them to start to click and get back into basketball shape," said Medeiros. "We're passing the ball better and playing better in the post."

Junior shooting guard Stephanie DeJesus led the team with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Senior forward Jackie Majeski finished the game with a double-double having 11 points and 13 rebounds.

After falling behind 11-8 early, Wilcox closed the first half with a 17-8 run to go up 25-19 at the end of the first half.

"We tend to get off to a slow start every game, but I would rather it be in the first quarter than the fourth quarter because otherwise we would probably lose," said Medeiros.

Classical cut Wilcox's lead to only four points in the third quarter.  Contributions from sophomore forward Alex Arjona who had 10 points and 7 rebounds and senior point guard Sam Roccapriore who had 7 points.  Wilcox ended the third quarter up 36-27.

"Our players really stepped up and knocked down some big shots," said Medeiros.

Wilcox next takes on East Windsor in a home game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
