For my first blog, I would like to discuss Meriden business and economic development. Most of the people I have met during my campaign are concerned about business downtown and the health of new and existing businesses throughout the City.
I truly believe that the current City Council has Meriden poised for success! Our City’s financial house is in order, our bond rating is up, and we are moving in the right direction. This momentum is evident in the list of existing businesses that have expanded their operations in the City, and the new businesses that have chosen Meriden as their home over the past several years. We need to acknowledge this success, but it is even more critical that we keep the ball rolling and push hard for continued growth and development in our City. We must seek out and create opportunities to bring new businesses to Meriden, and we absolutely have to support and do everything we can to help current Meriden businesses thrive and grow – especially in downtown! As a downtown resident, I want to see this area thrive and become more active. I want to see continued improvement of West Main Street. We need more events and activities at the Courthouse Plaza to allow our community to enjoy Downtown Meriden again!
If I am elected as the new City Councilor in Area One, the first item on my agenda will be to meet with the business people and stakeholders in Downtown Meriden, to talk about what we can do to help businesses thrive, bring in new business, and make our downtown GREAT again. But talking will not be the end, if elected I will help put these ideas into action and keep Meriden moving!
