Are you traveling for the 4th of July? Fill up before you leave town!

Americans are taking advantage of a mid-week 4th of July holiday to take vacation, and AAA says more than ever are hitting the road this week, driving greater than 50 miles for their plans.

Meriden residents would be wise to top off the tank before heading out, as gas prices in town are 8 cents lower than the Connecticut average ($3.63 per gallon for regular), says the AAA Web site.

According to AAA, "On April 6, motorists experienced a year-to-date peak average price of $3.94 per gallon for regular gasoline. The current national average price of regular gasoline is $3.50 per gallon, 44 cents lower than the April peak and 16 cents less than this time last year."
