Holy Word Provides Essentials to Local Needy

In keeping with Christ's Gospel the charitable Christian group spends thousands each holiday providing food and gifts to the poor.

Editor’s Note: It’s the holiday season and for many, that means something more than finding the perfect gift or going to parties. For social service groups or charities, it’s the time when they reach out for that extra bit of help. Over the next few weeks Patch will profile some of the charitable groups working in your towns and tell you what they need. The Information below was self-reported by the group and taken from the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy's Holiday Wishlist.

WHAT THEY NEED:

During the 2011 holiday season, Holy Word Foundation anticipates helping 50 families. The group provided homeless and underprivileged people and families with a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day ($500). It will also provides families with baskets of holiday and winter items including hats and gloves, age appropriate toys, holiday baked goods, and grocery gift basket with a total value of $2,500. In addition, we plan to have a holiday bazaar ($200) and a Family Holiday event ($300) in an effort to reduce stress and foster family togetherness. Financial donations welcomed for these efforts.

BIG WISH:

Holy Word Foundation Ministries reaches out to a number of elderly and disabled individuals and has found that we are limited due to our lack of handicap accesibility to certain areas in our building. Therefore, the agency’s one big wish this holiday season is to add a handicap accesible entrance to the upstairs sactuary/hall via elevator or stair lift. This would allow the expansion of the ministry without barriers and allow Holy Word to reach out to a larger population of people in need.
