Meriden Food Drive is This Weekend

Local letter carriers will take part in the 20th annual event.

 

Instead of simply delivering your mail this Saturday will be looking for something from you as well: A bit of food.

Local mail carriers on May 12 will participate in a food drive, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers in conjunction with the and Wallingford. The United Way and the postal workers are asking everyone on their mail routes to leave non-perishable food donations next to their mailboxes as a contribution to the food drive.

Mail carriers in Wallingford are also participating in the food drive.

“During this difficult economic period, there is an enormous need for food in our community as food banks continue to experience record demand for food assistance,” the United Way said in a press release announcing the initiative.

“This annual food drive is an important event that assists in the restocking of the following local pantries: , Salvation Army, Shelter NOW, New Opportunities, Catholic Charities, Master’s Manna and the Good News Christian Center. Please remember to leave non-perishable food items near your mailbox, for pick up on May 12th. Remember - expired food donations cannot be distributed, so please check the expiration date on all items. We thank you in advance for your contribution towards ending hunger in Meriden and Wallingford.”
