South Meriden Lions Club Ready to Walk

To raise Diabetes awareness, that is.

For the fifth year, the South Meriden Lions Club will take to the streets next month for a good cause.

The Lions Club is holding its 5th Annual Strides Diabetes Awareness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association linear trail, 540 Oregon Rd.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Registration is $20 and if your registration is postmarked by Saturday you will receive a commemorative T-Shirt.

About the Course: The Quinnipiac Gorge Trail is a 1.3 miles and 10-foot wide asphalt paved trail which was constructed to adhere to the Americans with Disabilities Act. This paved trail has its Grand Entrance, two brownstone columns located in Lion’s Club Park on Oregon Road at Red Bridge. The trail sits on the railroad bed of the Meriden, Waterbury & Connecticut River Railroad (circa 1890’s) and provides several scenic viewing areas along the Quinnipiac River.

There is plenty of free parking and will be a post- race raffle of merchandise (must be present to win).
