Walk for Warmth, Student Art Exhibit, Eight to the Bar

Best bets for the weekend of March 5-6

Where/When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., First Congregational Church, 62 Colony St., Meriden

Why Go: You may have to walk 2 miles, but not only is it for a good cause (local fuel-assistance funds for residents of Meriden, Wallingford, Southington and Berlin), but a virtual tailgate party is waiting for you at the finish line! Food, face-painting, door prizes, raffles and an auction are as good a reason to get some exercise as anything! Sponsored by the New Opportunities of Greater Meriden, 100% of the money raised will go to needy families.

Where/When: 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Zilkha Gallery at Wesleyan University, 283 Washington Terrace, Middletown (12 to 7 p.m. on the following Monday through Friday; 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 13)

Why Go: It doesn’t get any better than seeing the best in two- and three-dimensional art forms from the city’s public school students in a professional gallery setting. A wide variety of materials and techniques will be on display.

Where/When: 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Hawthorne Inn, 2421 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin

Why Go: Come listen to the musical stylings of the veteran Connecticut group Eight to the Bar. This performance will feature mostly Motown tunes. If you’ve never seen an Eight to the Bar show, you’re in for a treat!

Pricing: Contact venue for any applicable cover charges, if any

Where/When: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Portland Public Library, 20 Freestone Ave., Portland

Why Go: Kids can enter a drawing contest and eat some baked goods while moms and dads donate diapers for the ABC Women’s Center in Middletown.

Pricing: Free, with a diaper donation.

Where/When: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church on the corner of Route 81 and Little City Road, Higganum

Why Go: It’s that time of year again, when we break out the corned beef and cabbage and celebrate Irish heritage (and do a few shots of Jameson’s). Get your green on! The dinner will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and homemade desserts. Yum!

Pricing: Adults $9; Seniors $7; Children $5. Takeout available.
