<p>Meriden's nine-member board of education shapes local educational policy and sets goals and objectives for the city's 12 public schools and nearly 9,000 students. Board members are elected by the citizens of Meriden and serve four-year terms.</p>
<p>Superintendent Mark Benigni runs the school system according to the rules and regulations set forth by the board. The board of education also oversees adult and continuing education as well as special programs such as the Young Mothers Program, the Venture Therapeutic Day School and Another School – an alternative high school program.</p>
