Students in preschool through 8th grade attend full-day classes. Part-time preschool classes are also available.</p> <p>Small, compact and friendly, Our Lady of Mount Carmel has a diverse student body representing a mix of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.</p> <p>In addition to a brand new playscape, OLMC has a modern computer lab and will soon have smart boards in all classrooms. Extracurricular activities include peer tutoring, student council, basketball, ski club, theater, yearbook, choir and scouting.</p> <p>The school offers before- and after-school programs, as well as summer school and school-vacation programs. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the only Catholic school in town that has a year-round program, according to Principal Noreen McDermott. "From technology to the arts, we have something for everyone here," she says.</p>

St. Joseph is the affiliated school of the next-door Catholic church bearing the same name. It was founded in 1915 as…More a sister institution to St. Rose's in East Meriden as more and more residents migrated west.</p> <p>St. Joseph has outlived St. Rose, and is now one of only three Catholic schools in town. The K-8 school's longevity can be credited to its innovative teaching methods, embrace of cutting-edge technology like electronic whiteboards and the committed support of its extensive community of staff, parents, students and alumni.</p> <p>According to principal Kathy Spencer, in standardized tests her students perform above grade level in all areas at all levels, with language arts scores two and three years above grade level. The student body is currently about 90 percent Catholic, but St. Joseph is open to families of all faiths.</p>
