Fire Marshal Steve Trella and his handful of staff provide the necessary inspections for everything from restaurants to rooming houses, and also license those who handle incendiary material. The staff also investigate fires and perform public fire-prevention and survival education.

Situated on an island in the middle of East Main Street, Meriden's stately city hall is the hub of city services. ItMore is also a center for Meriden history. Inside, well-known city residents like opera singer Rosa Ponselle are enshrined in a Hall of Fame and outside there is a plaque commemorating the time U.S. President Abraham Lincoln spoke on the steps of the original hall, which burned down in 1904.
