Meriden Police Conducting DUI Checkpoint on Friday

Police are also ramping up their patrols for intoxicated drivers during the whole Labor Day weekend.

Meriden police will be on the lookout this weekend for intoxicated drivers.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 29 and continuing through the Labor Day weekend, the Meriden Police Department will be conducting roving DUI patrols all weekend.

There will also be a DUI checkpoint on Friday Aug. 30. Officers will be looking for intoxicated operators, seat belt violations and distracted driving. This also includes drivers who are using cell phones, police said.

"The added patrols are made possible due to a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration," police said. "Thank you and on behalf of the Meriden Police Department, please have a happy and safe holiday weekend!"
